Bona Dea ‘Bonnnie’ Joyce Becker


March 12, 1921 – June 27, 2013


Bona Dea “Bonnie” Joyce Becker (nee Rolefson), age 92, of Hartford (formerly of Neosho), passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the Gardens of Hartford, surrounded by her loving family.

Bonnie was born March 12, 1921, in the town of Ashippun to George and Lillian (nee Reid) Rolefson.

She was united in marriage to Walter E. Becker on Oct. 12, 1940, at St. Clare Catholic Church, North Lake.

Bona Dea lived most of her life on the family farm in Neosho. She was active in her community and church including being a 4H leader, a member of St. Matthew’s Christian Mothers and the Daughters of Isabella, the Neosho Firemen’s Auxiliary, and the Hartford Senior Friends.

She enjoyed time with her family, gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, corresponding with relatives and friends, feeding the birds, and taking long walks.

Starting in the 1970s, she turned her lifelong love of sewing into a mission of creating beautiful quilts for family, friends and charity.

She recorded in her journal more than 750 quilts she made over the next 40 years.

She is survived by her children: Patricia (John) Unser of Neosho, Penelope Walter (Ron) of Springbrook, Pamela (Norbert) Breuer of Rubicon, Susan (David) Schmidt of East Troy, Sharon Becker (Stan) of Sequim, Wash., Joseph (Krista) Becker of Neosho, John Becker of Iron Ridge, Walter Becker, Jr. of Hartford, Stephanie Wagner of Springbrook; and her 18 cherished grandchildren: Deborah (Christopher), Douglas (Jessica), Theresa (Jeffrey), Natalie (Michael), Anthony, Eric (Cindy), Nicole (Larry), Jason (Lynn), Jelene (John), Jeremy (Kelly), Kyle, Austin (Jennifer), Jessica, Amanda, Lindsay, Tylor (Linh), Adrienne (David), April (fiance Brian); and her 32 great-grandchildren whom she adored. She is further survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, other dear relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Becker, in 1995, parents, mother-in-law, Eva Griesmer and father-in-law, Edwin Becker; and brothers Earl (Vivian) Rolefson and Roland (Vera) Rolefson.

A Mass of Christian burial for Bonnie was held Sunday. Interment is at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Cemetery, Rubicon.
