Thomas J. Smith

Feb. 11, 1945 – July 2, 2013

Thomas J. Smith, 68 years young, found eternal peace on July 2, 2013. He was born Feb. 11, 1945, in Milwaukee. He was the son of the late John and Jeanette (nee DesMarais) Smith. Tom married his sweetheart, Valerie (nee Feldmann), on July 2, 1966, and coming full circle, passed away on their 47th anniversary. Tom is survived by his loving and caring wife, Valerie; son, Michael (Pamela) Smith; daughter, Tammy (Jeff) Kops and much-loved grandchildren Stephanie, Hannah and Ryan. He is further survived by sister-in-law Gail Cavanaugh, brother-in-law Neil (Laura) Feldmann and many loving nieces and other family members.

Tom spent 11 years on the Milwaukee Police Department before joining his brother-in-law Neil in ownership of Schmidt Bar Supply. Tom loved showering attention on his grandchildren, tailgating with friends at Packer and Badger games, cheering on the Brewers, traveling, golfing, collecting stamps and coins and watching the antics of the birds and other critters that he loved to feed in the yard.

Special thank you to Visiting Angels, especially Kailyn, for the exceptional care and companionship. Thank you also to Avalon Square and to Seasons Hospice for the comfort they provided. Memorials in Tom’s name would be appreciated to the American Heart Association.
