Carmel Joseph Mariani

Carmel Joseph Mariani, 90, of Sun City, Ariz., left Tuesday morning, July 2, 2013, for heaven. He was born in Detroit, Mich., to Italian immigrants Pasquale and Maria Mariani, on Jan. 23, 1923, and grew up in Waukesha.


He worked as machine shop superintendent until he retired. He had a great sense of humor, and a love for music (playing the drums in a band). He was married to Carol for 56 years. They lived a wonderful life in Arizona, where he golfed daily and he also enjoyed bowling competitively. Carmel was city champ in Waukesha.


Carmel and Carol had two children, Rebecca and Gregory (Stacey) Mariani, and  two sons from a previous marriage, Patrick (Beth) and Michael (Shelly) Mariani. He was also a great father to Ruth (Ron) Hernandez, Butch (Sherry), Kevin and Tom (Mary Beth) Hintz. He is survived by 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three sisters, Frances Bucci, Dollie Pfeffer and Ann (Art) Tennessen.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Pasquale and Maria; a sister, Laura Wilson; and two grandchildren, Eric Shuda and Jolina Hintz.


He will be greatly missed by all of his friends and family.


A service will be held in Sun City at a later date.
