Richard J. Koestler Sr.

Richard J. Koestler Sr. of Waukesha died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at the age of 88. He was born in Waukesha on Dec. 31, 1924, the son of late Frank and Florence (nee Kabet) Koestler. He graduated from Waukesha High School and was in the Class of 1945 at Carroll College. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. On Dec. 23, 1967, he married Mary Kathleen Malek in Bay View, and their marriage was blessed at St. Joseph Parish in May 1983. Richard retired in March of 1990 from Waukesha Foundry with 32 years in the shipping department. After retirement, he did volunteer work for the Department of Aging and delivered for Meals on Wheels three times a week for 18 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where at one time, he was a member of the parish council, a member of the St. Joseph Medical Clinic and was an usher at the 4:30 p.m. Mass on Saturdays. Richard was a great believer in blood donation, donating more than 240 pints of blood.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of more than 45 years, Mary Kathleen of Waukesha; his two sons, Richard (Debra) Koestler Jr. of Rio Rancho, N.M.; and Larry (Julianne) Koestler of Eagle; three grandchildren, Jamieson (Farah) Koestler of Milwaukee, Justin Koestler of Madison and Kali Koestler of Waukesha; along with one great-granddaughter, Lulu. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley (Michael) Lawrence.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the 7 p.m. vigil service Monday, July 29, at the Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha. Services continue on Tuesday, July 30, at the funeral home with prayers beginning at 9:30 a.m., followed by the procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 822 N. East Ave., Waukesha, for the 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass. Entombment with full military honors will immediately follow at Prairie Home Cemetery.
