Virginia T. Leonhard Rowland, 88, of Arcadia, Fla., and formerly of Nankin, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013. Virginia was born July 9, 1924, in Fort Atkinson, to the late Edward and Margaret Whitman Leonhard.

She spent her entire working career as a nurse for Samaritan Hospital in Ashland, Ohio, and retired as a nurse for Dr. Starkey in Ashland, as well. Virginia enjoyed knitting, cooking and the outdoors. You could find her sitting on the porch at 5 p.m. (her favorite time of day) with her daughter’s Jack Russell, Baby, sitting in her lap. Virginia never forgot a date and sent cards to everyone on all occasions.

Virginia is survived by her daughters, Sheila (Larry) Pummell of Arcadia and Alicia (William) Dignin of Mansfield, Ohio; son, Craig (Karen) Rowland of Millersburg, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Myron Leonhard; and her beloved husband of 49 years, Jim Rowland.

Private graveside services will be for the family at Nankin Cemetery on May 5.
