July 31, 1928 – Sept. 21, 2013

Ruth B. Lockman of Waukesha passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at CareAge of Brookfield at the age of 85. She was born July 31, 1928 in Elmhurst, Ill., the daughter of Clarence and Martha (nee Popp) Bailey.

Ruth graduated from Carroll College in 1950 with a degree in chemistry. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Waukesha. Additionally, she was the secretary at Hawthorne Elementary School in Waukesha for 25 years. Ruth enjoyed reading and bird watching, was a member and supporter of the Milwaukee County Zoo, and loved to attend Waukesha North High School athletic events and concerts.

Most of all, Ruth loved spending time with her three sons and all of the grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

Ruth was a loving mother to David W. (Blakey) Lockman of Stevensville, Mont., William B. (Susan) Lockman of West Allis and John C. (Louise) Lockman of Mequon; grandmother to Curt W. (Melissa) Lockman, Julie R. (Jason) Koch, Daniel C. Lockman, Jenna L. Lockman, Jack W. Lockman and Lucas J. Lockman; and great-grandmother “Gee-Gee” to Reese, William, Landon and Lincoln. She is further survived by her sisters, Barbara B. (Hugh) Wells of California, Peggy B. Denham of Kentucky and Sandra B. (Jay) Newton of Missouri; a sister-in-law, Gerda Lockman of Waukesha; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son, D.B. Lockman; a brother, Richard J. (Patricia) Bailey; and a brother-in-law, Clarence Denham.

The visitation for Ruth will be held from 2 p.m. until the 4 p.m. memorial service Sunday, Oct. 13, at First United Methodist Church, 121 Wisconsin Ave., Waukesha, WI 53186. The Rev. Dan Schwerin will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ruth’s name to First United Methodist Church are appreciated (see address above).

It was Ruth’s wish that people not wear black to the memorial service as this is a “celebration of life.”
