Daniel H. Ballard
June 12, 1945 – Sept. 2, 2013
H. Ballard, 68, of Tomahawk, passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at
Ministry St. Mary’s Hospital under hospice care. He was born June 12,
1945, in Waukesha, to the late Howard and Mary Ballard. Dan enlisted in
the U.S. Marine Corps and served for three years. He was married to Mary
(Long) in 1963; she survives.
Dan grew up in Pewaukee and graduated from Pewaukee High School. After
his service, Dan attended Waukesha County Technical College and received
his degree in criminal justice.
He began his longtime career as a deputy sheriff with the Waukesha
County Sheriff’s Department, retiring in 1997.
After retirement, Dan and Mary moved to the Harrison Hills area. Dan
loved being in the north woods and enjoyed riding his ATV, fishing and
spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife and best friend, Mary Ballard of Tomahawk;
two sons, Don (Kristine) Ballard of Campbellsport and David (Donna
Hansen) Ballard of Tomahawk; one brother, James (Barbara) Ballard of
Waukesha; two half-brothers, Charles (Irleen) Ballard of Pennsylvania
and Don (Esther) Ballard of Michigan; one sister, Helen Peters of
Tomahawk; his mother-In-law, Iris Long of Rhinelander; one
brother-in-law, Mike (Mary) Long of Menomonie; and his sisters-in-law,
Cindy (Lou) Zak of Gleason, Linda Long of Fort Atkinson, Kim (Steve
Coralline) Long of Medford and Donna Long of Waukesha. Dan is further
survived by two grandchildren, Matthew and Joseph Ballard, and many
nieces and nephews.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, a half-sister and his
father-in-law, Jack Long.
A celebration of life will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at
Generations Funeral Home of Tomahawk.
