LaPreal Rogers Hoyt Houser

Aug. 24, 1919 Ė Sept. 1, 2013

LaPreal Rogers Hoyt Houser passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at her daughter Pamela Proulxís home in Waukesha.

LaPreal was born Aug. 24, 1919, in Snowflake, Ariz. Her parents are Rueben Davis Rogers and Wealthy Ballard. She was the eighth of 10 children.

She graduated from Snowflake High School at the top of her class, having served as senior class vice president and yearbook editor. She subsequently graduated from Gila Jr. College with honors in 1939.

Throughout high school, she and Israel Ard Hoyt dated.

He came home from school for Christmas in 1939, and they were married at the Main Street Chapel in Snowflake. He returned to college in Washington, D.C., and she soon joined him.

Sometime later, they moved to Salt Lake City. In 1946, they moved to Phoenix for Ard to join his brother and brother-in-law in building homes. The first subdivision they built was named LaPreal Manor. The Phoenix/ Scottsdale area is where they raised their children. In 1963, their family was sealed in the Arizona Mesa Temple.

Her dearest Ard passed away in 1970.

In 1975, she married Wayne Houser Sr. He passed away in 1997, after which LaPreal moved back to Snowflake, where she lived until 2008 in her home on 3rd West with the beautiful white gazebo.

Health issues necessitated her moving back to the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. In 2010, she went to live with her daughter, Pamela. She remained there under the constant and loving care of her precious daughter, Pamela, granddaughter Lindsay Ellis and great-granddaughter Maya Ellis.

LaPreal was active in the LDS church, where she sang in numerous choirs. She and Ard were stake dance directors in Phoenix for many years and she served as secretary to several bishops there. She faithfully served as a visiting and primary teacher. Any recipient of LaPrealís compassionate service, in the form of food, received a magnificent meal!

LaPreal was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Cora Rogers Rogers, Lawrence Davis Rogers, Minnie Rogers Barrett, Lynn Charles Rogers, Annie Rogers Smith, Harlon Rogers, Marlon Isaac Rogers, Herbert Melvin Rogers and Fenla Rogers Hatch.

LaPreal is survived by her children, Timothy Ard Hoyt (Deborah) of Ohio, Shirlyn Hoyt Allen (James) of Phoenix, Coleman Davis Hoyt (Nikki) of Snowflake, Pamela Hoyt Proulx (Douglas) of Waukesha and LaPreal (Penny) Hoyt Ellis (Daniel) of Heber City, Utah.

These along with her 29 grandchildren and 93 great-grandchildren will miss her every day.
