Donald T. Marks

Donald went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 12, 2013, at age 87. Loving husband of 58 years to Phyllis. Cherished father of Susan (Jim) Cerroni, Charles (Cathy), Donna (Paul) Manley, and Tom (Lisa). Loving Grandpa of Chad (Kendra), Lauran (Craig), Stuart, Paulina (Paul), Andy, John, Pete, Daniel, Tim, Julius and Augie. Dear brother of Doris (the late Norm) DeVillers, Joan (Frank) Banholzer, Julius (Janet) Marks and the late Eugene (Jean) Marks, Mary Lou Green and Charles Marks.

Don was born in Berlin, Wisconsin, in 1925 to Sadie and Julius Marks. He grew up on a farm where he loved the outdoors fishing and hunting. He was very athletic, enjoyed all high school sports with a special love of football. Don served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. After the service, Don attended the University of Platteville, played football, and earned a BS in education. In 1950, he began his teaching career at the Wisconsin School for the Deaf in Delavan. He coached football and started a baseball program. It was there that he met his wife Phyllis. He played semi-pro football for the Delavan Red Devils, and was named All Conference Guard. In 1957, Don and his family moved to Waukesha where he was employed with the Waukesha School District. He earned his masterís degree in education and counseling. A highlight in his life was coaching high school football, where he made dear, lifelong friendships. Don and Phyllis enjoyed many winters vacationing in Pensacola, Florida. They owned a lake home on Silver Lake in Wautoma, Wisconsin, where he spent many of his retired years enjoying his children and grandchildren.

Memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, September 18, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Ave., Waukesha, Wisconsin, from 3 p.m. until Memorial Mass at 5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Mary Catholic Church.
