Stanley Bruce ‘Mike’ Tanner Jr.
Bruce “Mike” Tanner Jr., 64, of Oconomowoc, passed away Saturday, Sept.
14, 2013, at home surrounded by his family. Mike is survived by his
loving wife of 42 years, Dina (nee Vasil); children, Stanley (Pam)
Tanner III and Rebecca (Travis) Wiedenhoeft; grandchildren, Mary Ann
Eagen, Nadine and Wyatt Tanner and Connor and Oliver Wiedenhoeft;
sisters, Sherry (Nephi) Cardejon and Laurie DaFonte; sister-in-law,
LeeAnn Pusatera; stepmother, Bettye Tanner; aunts, Mary Jean Braddock
and Nadine Casey; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Claudine “Sunnie” (nee
Williams); father, Stanley Bruce Tanner; along with his brother-in-law,
The visitation for Mike will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday,
Sept. 20, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 210 E. Pleasant
Ave., Oconomowoc. An additional visitation will be from 10 a.m. until
the 11 a.m. service Saturday, Sept. 21, at the church. The family would
like to invite everyone to join them for a light luncheon following the
service. Mike will be laid to rest at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans
Cemetery in Union Grove on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the St. Paul’s Organ Fund
or St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc.
Mike proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from
1968 to 1972, and served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a helicopter
door gunner from 1969 to 1971. He earned 15 Presidential Air Medals and
many other medals of honor.
Following his service he worked as a regional manager for 3M Company and
Ricoh from 1972 until 1986, and then chose to become a fulltime
homemaker until the children were grown.
Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching old movies and taking care of
his children and grandchildren. Mike was very loyal, strong, never
complained and had a great sense of humor.
