Clarence ‘Jitts’ Lawrence
Clarence “Jitts” Lawrence of Waukesha died March 9, 2014, at age 85.
He was the beloved husband of JoAn (nee Mickle) for 63 years; dear father of Lindy (Steven) Whiting and Larry (Sherry); grandfather of Alex; brother of Gerrit (Carol); and brother- in-law of Alice “Trixie” Lawrence. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Clarence; brothers, Paul and Ray (Hilda); and sister, Jean (Joe) Bigg.
A memorial gathering will be held Sunday, April 6, from 1 PM to 4 PM at Church and Chapel Funeral Home, 380 Bluemound Road (at highways J and JJ, four blocks south of Interstate 94), Waukesha, with a memorial service at 4 PM. Burial of cremated remains at Prairie Home Cemetery will be at a later date.
Jitts signed with the Chicago Cubs in 1946 as a pitcher and was with the organization for five years. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a longtime member of the Evangelical & Reformed United Church of Christ in Waukesha. He was a retiree from the city of Waukesha Parks and Recreation Department and was the county park manager at Nagawaukee Park. His volunteer work in the community was a big part of his life. He is loved by many and will be deeply missed.
