Thelma J. Curtis

May 7, 1917 – Feb. 7, 2014

Thelma J. Curtis entered into eternal life on February 7, 2014, at the age of 96. She was born on May 7, 1917.

She was preceded into death by her husband, Lester L. Curtis; her parents, Lewis and Emma Jensen; her brother, LeRoy Jensen; and sister-in-law, Helen.

She was the loving mother of Lee Curtis (Richmond, Va.) and Lynn (Robert) Baersch (Palm Springs, Calif.). She is also survived by family members Kimm (Baersch), Jorge and Luca DeVotto (Los Angeles, Calif.); nieces, Karen Jensen and Phyllis Flory; and nephew, Roger Jensen.

After graduating from Oconomowoc High School, Thelma graduated from Spencerian Business College and became the office manager at the Burrough’s Corporation in Milwaukee, where she eventually met and married her husband, Les. In 1955, she returned to her secretarial career becoming the executive secretary to George Musebeck of Musebeck (Foot-So-Port) Shoe Company in Oconomowoc, and retired from there as the personal secretary to George Howie.

While working for George Howie, who was also president of the U.S. International Speed Skating Association, Thelma and her husband became great fans of speed skating, frequently attending skating events in Milwaukee and attending the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, N.Y.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Shorehaven, Lutheran Homes of Oconomowoc, on April 23 at 2:00 p.m.

Memorials may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stone Bank.
