Donald L. Griffin

Sept. 16, 1947 Ė April 19, 2014

Donald L. Griffin, age 66, of Hartford, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, April 19, 2014.

Don was born on Sept. 16, 1947, to Charles G. and Gladys Griffin (nee Krakow) in Columbus, where he grew up and attended school. He was united in marriage to Karen Beine (formerly Rolsma) on May 19, 1990, in Sturgeon Bay.

Don was employed at Chrysler Marine of Hartford for 27 years. During his employment, he became involved in the union movement, the Allied Industrial Workers International Union, Local 879. He went from becoming a departmental steward to the president of his local union. After the plant was sold and subsequently closed, he began his employment at Waukesha Engines in 1994. Again, Don became heavily involved in the union and was elected chairman of the local bargaining committee, Local 1377. From there he progressed within the International Association of Machinists, District 10, and became a business representative, a position he held from November 21, 2005, until the time of his passing. Donís dedication and devotion to the labor movement and his fellow workers, regardless of where he was employed, is his legacy. He will be remembered by the many he has helped along the way.

Among his incredible devotion to work, Don enjoyed the time with his grandchildren, friends and family; had great passion and strong beliefs within the Democratic Party; and earlier in life, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Don is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Karen Griffin; loving children, David A. (Robin) Griffin of Mayville, Donna Williams of Dallas, Ga., and Debbie Bornick of Watertown; loving stepsons, Adam (Elissa) Rolsma and Brandon (Tammy) Rolsma, both of Hartford; cherished grandchildren, Heather and Daniel Griffin, Matthew Multhauf, Joshua and Stephen Buske; cherished step-grandchildren, Alexis, Mason, Cooper, Jaxon Rolsma and Brooke Lorbiecki; cherished great-grandsons, Landen and Talon Buske; dear siblings, Faye (Cecil) Goodale of Goose Creek, S.C., Joan Oleson of Mt.
