David R. Zalar

David R. Zalar, 79, of Jefferson, went home with the Lord on August 2, 2014.

He was the loving husband of Georgia (Zealley) for 55 years; proud father of Tony, Stephanie (Brett) Boyd and Sara Sobrofski; and “Grampers” of Corinne and Elise Boyd and Ally and Ben Sobrofski.

Dave lived his life by these three priorities — God, family, country. He was a devout follower of Christ, loving family man, and proud, proud, American patriot.

After serving in the Air Force with a year in Korea, Dave attended MSOE on the GI Bill, for which he was always grateful. An electrical engineer, Dave worked for Cutler-Hammer, Louis Allis, and retired from Delco Electronics (General Motors) in 1996.

Dave and Georgia lived in Wales for 34 years. During that time, he was a volunteer EMT, coached soccer and baseball, and was a Boy Scouts and 4-H leader.

Dave was often seen running through Wales, and was especially known for having a front yard full of wild flowers. After retirement, he found new hobbies in water color painting and stained glass projects.

The Wales dragon stained glass piece he made still hangs in the Wales Village Hall. In his heart Wales was always home.

A gathering for visiting and sharing memories will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church in Waukesha. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Wisconsin Honor Flights for Veterans or the Wounded Warriors Project.

Schneider-Michaelis Funeral Home, 920-674-3960, is serving the family. Visit to leave a condolence or light a candle in his memory.
