Ellen D. ‘Nan’ Schlesner
Ellen D. ‘Nan’ Schlesner (nee Kosanke) of Pewaukee found eternal peace on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at the age of 90 years. She was born and raised in Pewaukee, the daughter of Eleanor and Arthur Kosanke.
She was the cherished mother of Sharon Kaatz, Ronald (Kathy) Knuth, Barbara (John) Karr and David C. Knuth.
In 1976, she married William A. Schlesner and she was blessed with the addition of another daughter, Sandra (Lee) Scamp. Ellen was Nana or Nan to her grandchildren: Delwin (Beth) Kaatz, Thomas (fiancee Kerrie Goodman), Kristin (Scott) Ostrowski, Becky Karr, Nadine (Joey Dellak) Scamp-Gross and Melanie (Andy) Ray. She was great-grandma to Samantha (Joshua) Schultz, Brad Kaatz, Jason Kaatz, Austin Kaatz, Gavin and Collin Scamp-Gross, Tabitha Dellak, Sarah and Simon Ray. Ellen was the matriarch of a five-generation family with the birth of Isabella Schultz, her great-great-grandchild on Dec. 2, 2012.
Ellen worked in the Pewaukee Schools hot lunch program before she retired from Briggs & Stratton after 20 years. After retirement, she and Bill traveled the country in their RV, developing many new friendships. In her younger years, she was active in her church, Girl Scouts and always enjoyed watching her sons in their many sports activities. She will be greatly missed by her nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Schlesner; son William A. Knuth; sister Marion Byers; and grandson David A. Knuth.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Thursday, Aug. 28, at Gethsemane United Methodist Church, 642 Main St., Pewaukee. Pastor Pete Peterson will be officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM until time of service at the church. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Pewaukee.
