Thomas Edwin Hering

Thomas Edwin Hering passed away peacefully on Monday, December 15, 2014, at age 73 years, after a three-year battle with cancer at home surrounded by family.
He was the beloved husband of Sandra (nee LeMahieu) for 47 years; loving father of Brian (Wendy) of Hartford, Kristin (Peter) Miller of Grants Pass Oregon, and Michael Hering of Waukesha; and proud grandpa of Sadie and Karl Miller of Grants Pass and Brianna Hering of Hartford. He is also survived by a brother, Paul (Linda), and sisters Carolyn (Wayne) Allen and Kathy (Don) Donarski, all of Green Bay, and an aunt, Carol Saeger of Sheboygan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Florence (nee Meyer) Hering of Sheboygan Falls, and an infant brother, Mark. He was also preceded in death by aunts and uncles Edwin and Ruth Hering, Elmer and Myrna Drossel, and George Saeger.
After high school, Tom served in the U.S. Navy for two years and then attended Milwaukee School of Engineering, receiving an associate degree in electrical engineering. Tom was employed by General Electric Medical Systems division for 37 years. He worked in many capacities spending the last 20 years as an Instructor at their training institute in Waukesha, until his retirement in 2002.
Tom was involved in many church activities, serving on the church council and singing in the choir. Because of his love of music, Tom also sang with the Waukesha Choral Union and the Senior Ambassadors in Mission, Texas. After retirement, he loved to spend time golfing with friends, traveling and volunteering for The Interfaith Caregivers Network.
The family wishes to thank the oncology staff at Waukesha Memorial Hospital and ProHealth Home Hospice in Oconomowoc for their compassionate care.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 21, from 2:00 PM until the time of a service at 4:00 PM at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 2016 Center Road, Waukesha.
