Aug. 2, 1935 – Feb. 6, 2014
Gary Lee Rasmussen was born on August 2, 1935, a birthday he shared with both his mother and youngest daughter, Sarah.
He was born in Clarion, Iowa, to parents Peter and Mary Rasmussen. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served as the city clerk for Oconomowoc, Oshkosh and Brookfield. A devoted family man, Gary was also the epitome of a gentleman, always holding doors and pushing in chairs. His daughters recall that while walking with a lady he would always take the curb side so that if a vehicle left the road it would strike him first. That’s the kind of man he was. As a father, he was gentle and kind, never raising his voice. He cherished every moment with his family and friends and strived to make even the most common of events special. He was known to cheer and take pictures of his grandsons during wrestling practice or to serve his best wine for an impromptu visit. He even went to great lengths one Christmas to make his youngest grandson believe his toy puppy tried to chew its way out of the package. Gary, always well-dressed and gifted with beautiful penmanship, was a dignified man who respected everyone despite their appearance or shortcomings. He never complained about anything, even when Parkinson’s disease robbed him of his physical and mental abilities.
Gary passed away on February 6, 2014, surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Strombeck and Sarah (Jim) Davis; brother, Bob (Ginda) Rasmussen; as well as four grandsons and many dear friends.
