Josephine A. Neumann
May 25, 1940 — June 27, 2014
Josephine Augusta Andree Neumann, 74, of Muscatine, Iowa, following a year-long struggle with colon cancer, died peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Friday, June 27, 2014.
Josephine Augusta Andree Neumann was born to August and Georgianna (Kubes) Andree on May 25, 1940, in Ogema. Josephine married Clarence Neumann on June 24, 1967, at First Lutheran Church in Ogema. He preceded her in death on June 22, 1987.
She graduated from University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and then taught at schools in Fort Atkinson and Oconomowoc.
She was a person of deep faith, involved in leadership at all the churches to which she belonged, including First Lutheran of Ogema, Dr. Martin Luther Church of Oconomowoc, St. John’s Lutheran of Nekimi in Oshkosh and Shepherd of the Cross Lutheran Church of Muscatine. Her leadership included teaching Sunday school and confirmation, as well as coordinating the Oconomowoc Area CROP Walk for many years.
She is survived by two daughters, Karla (Wil) Neumann Smiley of Troy, Idaho, and Jodi (Doug) Hinrichs of Muscatine; four grandchildren, Mackenzie, Alexa, Kelli and Brian Hinrichs; two sisters, Alice (Terry) Grunwald and Margaret (Jerry) Burghaus of Oshkosh; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation and funeral services were held Tuesday, July 1, at the Shepherd of the Cross Lutheran Church. The Reverend Julie Higgs officiated. There will be no burial.
Memorials may be given to Shepherd of the Cross Lutheran Church (designated for the furnace or other capital improvements) or Tricia’s Troops Cancer Connection of Oconomowoc — an organization started by a family friend who died of colon cancer much too young.
