Sally Jean Rather

Sally Jean Rather Dobberfuhl was born on March 10, 1940, in Oconomowoc to mother Irene Grunewald Rather and father Lawrence Rather. Sally attended Brown Street School, a one-room schoolhouse in Oconomowoc, then Oconomowoc High School. She earned a Bachelor of Art degree in art and education from University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1962 and took a job teaching art classes in Watertown, rotating between four different elementary schools.
Sally was married to Dennis Alvin Dobberfuhl on March 5, 1966, at St. Paulís Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc. They met when working together at the Kiltie drive-in restaurant and quickly became part of the same group of friends. After spending years as friends they became increasingly close and Dennis proposed marriage. They spent 48 years by each otherís side, celebrating their successes and supporting each other through lifeís challenges relying on their devout Christian faith and usually a touch of humor. Dennis was by Sallyís side holding her hand on May 12, 2014, when she moved on to her eternal life with Jesus in heaven.
Sally was preceded to heaven by both parents and her brother Kenneth Rather and infant sister, Wendy Sue. She is survived by her husband, Dennis; children Dean (Angie) Dobberfuhl of Gainesville, Fla., and Hope Dobberfuhl of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Aidan and Avery Dobberfuhl, sister Shirley (Raymond) Waltritsch of Arizona City, Ariz.; sister Sharon (Lynn) Longley of Winter; brother Larry (Suzy) Rather of Oconomowoc and numerous nephews, nieces grandnephews and grandnieces.
A memorial service was held May 22, 2014, at Ascension Lutheran Church in Tucson, Ariz.
