Eldo C. Koenig, Ph.D., of Oconomowoc, went to his heavenly home July 11, 2014, at age 94.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Gloria (Houting) Koenig; their two sons, Lloyd (Kalaivani) and Evan (Marcia); daughter Beth Riedel (John); brother Wesley (Mary); and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Eva Koenig.
Dr. Koenig was born October 17, 1919, in Randolph County, Illinois, and earned degrees from Washington University in St. Louis, the Illinois Institute of Technology, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He began his professional career on assignment to the U.S. War Department, Manhattan District, in work associated with development of the atomic bomb. After 19 years with the Allis-Chalmers Corporation, he joined the faculty of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. There he helped organize the university’s computer sciences department. Dr. Koenig published over 50 works pertaining to computers and computing and was the recipient of several prestigious awards.
Funeral services for Dr. Koenig will be held at Divine Redeemer Lutheran Church, 31385 Hill Road in Hartland today, July 17, at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM until the time of the service. Dr. Koenig will be laid to rest at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Baldwin, Ill.
