Elvira D. (Kidd) Meyer, 89, of La Crosse, passed away Monday, March 10, 2014, at Bethany Riverside Nursing Facility in La Crosse.

She was born December 5, 1924, in Holmen to Clarence and Lillie (Quall) Anderson. Elvira was baptized and confirmed at Lewis Valley Lutheran Church, rural Holmen. She attended Holmen High School and graduated in 1943. On July 24, 1946, she was married to Arthur Kidd and he preceded her in death on January 29, 1985. Three children were born to this union, James R., Daniel L. and Vicki L. In 1956, Elvira became a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in La Crosse, transferring from Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with her family. She became an active member in the Elizabeth Circle and other WELCA functions.

Elvira was employed at the La Crosse Garment Company and The Company Store for 25 years, retiring in 1990. After that, she continued with her hobbies, which were weaving rugs, making quilts and caring for her flower beds and her lawn.

On June 12, 1994, Elvira was married to Duane V. Meyer from Waukesha at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church by Pastor Jarvis Mattes. He preceded her in death on April 29, 2010.

Elvira was an avid seamstress who had a special talent for weaving rugs on her loom and making beautiful quilts for family and friends. Many special memories were woven with love in many Christmas, birthday and wedding quilts and rugs. When Elvira was given a quilt order, she took it very seriously, often waking up before 4 a.m. to meet a deadline promised to her customer. Many of her rugs and quilts are still being used today and treasured by all who were lucky enough to receive such a special item. Elvira will be remembered as a woman who was an extremely hard worker but very loving. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.

Survivors include her two sons, James R. (Judy) Kidd of Orland Park, Ill., and Daniel L. (Ping Hu) Kidd of California; four grandchildren, Kristen (Courtney) Donovan, Matthew Kidd, Aaron (Élen) Kidd and Jeffrey Kidd; two great-grandchildren, Anders Kidd and Justine Nicole; three sisters, Valgean Anderson, Carolyn (Richard) Bryant and Mary Anderson; one step-daughter, Bonnie (Charles) Burton of Waukesha; three step-grandsons, Richard Burton, David Burton and John (Kim) Burton; three step-great-grandchildren, Davey, Eric and Abby; sisters- in-law; brothers-in-law; and many, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her first husband and second husband, Elvira was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother; her daughter, Vicki Lynn; her daughter-in-law, Barbara Kidd; one sister; and three brothers.
