William F. Gustafson

March 11, 1945 – March 22, 2014

William F. Gustafson passed away March 22, 2014, at his home in Waukesha, at the age of 69. Bill was born March 11, 1945 in Tomahawk, to Frank and Flora Gustafson (Tapani), and was the youngest of five boys.

Bill married Linda Martin on Dec. 5, 1970, in Superior and were married for 43 years. They lived in Waukesha for 40 years and had three children born in Waukesha.

Bill is survived by his wife; son, Brad (Laura) Gustafson of Fayetteville, N.C.; daughters, Courtney Gustafson of Waukesha and Whitney (Eric) Shafer of Chicago; and three grandchildren, Kelsey, Brayden and Emma Gustafson.

From his childhood through college, he worked for the family business, Gustafson Logging in Brantwood. He graduated from Wisconsin State University, Superior (now called UW-Superior) Business School in 1967 and was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. Bill was a store manager for Target Corp. for 26 years. He started at one of their first stores in Duluth, Minn., helped open several other of their locations around the Milwaukee area, served on site selection committees, served as president of the Wisconsin Retail Financial Executives 1989-1990, and was a board member of the local United Way.

After retiring from Target, Bill opened Prairieville Park Adventure Golf in Waukesha in 1995. Bill loved working and helping customers. He considered this his retirement and looked forward to every new season at Prairieville Park.

Bill loved playing golf, spending time with family, following politics and watching sports. Bill was a season ticket holder and shareholder of the Green Bay Packers. Every year, Bill loved taking his family to one game at Lambeau Field.

He was a member of Elmbrook Church in Brookfield since 1981. He volunteered at the information booth, did mission trips to Belize and enjoyed the fellowship of their neighborhood small groups.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 26, at Elmbrook Church, 777 S. Barker Road, Brookfield, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Funeral service will be celebrated 6:00 PM. Private burial will be at Wisconsin Memorial Park.
