Richard ‘Digger’ Haessig

June 1, 1931 – May 2, 2014

Digger was born on Monday, June 1, 1931, to the late Evelyn and Merritt Haessig. He passed away early Friday, May 2, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of 59 years to Barbara (nee Simonis); loving dad of Pam (Gaylen) Van Quill, Lee (Laura) Haessig and Chris (Marty) Kleven; loving and cherished grandpa of Candice (Travis) Van Quill-Geyer, Carey (Raeann) Van Quill, Jason (Jamie) Haessig, Jeremy (Jessica) Haessig, Eric Van Quill, Dusty (Leanne) Haessig, Erin Van Quill, Marty (Riley) Kleven and Abbi (Ben) Craven; great-grandpa of Sawyer, Jennah and Jameson; and brother-in-law of Gloria Haessig. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his siblings Phyllis, Jean and Mel.

Digger served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a dedicated employee of Wisconsin Natural Gas for 34 years. Digger loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved going fishing on Hunter Lake in Eagle River and hunting, watching auto racing, the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Braves/Brewers, and having some nice cold beer with family and friends.

There will be a memorial gathering Thursday, May 8, at Church and Chapel Funeral Home, 380 Bluemound Road (at highways J and JJ, four blocks south of Interstate 94), Waukesha, from 4 PM to 7 PM.
