Gladys M. Conley

Gladys M. Conley, 94, formerly of Waukesha, returned home to the Lord on May 10, 2014. Gladys was born on June 7, 1919, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Hilda Baumhover. She graduated from St. Joseph Grade School, Waukesha, in 1933, and Waukesha High School in 1937.

In 1940, Gladys graduated from Marquette University’s School of Nursing, thus beginning her long and dedicated career as a registered nurse until her retirement in 1990. Her compassionate and caring years of nursing included the following venues of health care: Public Health Nursing, Waukesha County; Waukesha’s Memorial and Veterans Hospitals; Marquette University’s Research Center at the former Milwaukee County Hospital; Waukesha County Mental Hospital (Northview); the School Sisters of Notre Dame Health Care Center; Villa Clement and Clement Manor Health Care Centers.

Gladys is survived by her sons, Michael (Carolyn) Conley and the Rev. Charles Conley; her grandchildren, Patrick and Katie; and many dear nephews, nieces and friends. Preceding her to eternal life were her parents; four siblings; her husbands, Jim Conley (1969) and Bill Sweney (1988); and a host of relatives, classmates and friends.

A visitation will be held at Becker Ritter Funeral Home, 14075 W. North Ave., Brookfield, on Wednesday, May 14, from 4 p.m. until the time of the vigil service at 7 p.m. In sure and certain hope of the Resurrection, relatives and friends are invited to join in the Mass of Christian burial on Thursday, May 15, at St. Jude the Apostle Parish, 734 Glenview Ave., Wauwatosa, at 7 p.m. A visitation will precede the Mass from 5 p.m.until 6:40 p.m. A reception will follow the Mass. Graveside services will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Waukesha, on Friday, May 16, at 11 a.m.

Rather than floral tributes, the family welcomes memorials to St. Jude’s Pipe Organ Fund.
