April 9, 1925 – May 4, 2014

Royanna Jane “Benjie” Benjamin, a lifelong Waukesha resident, died on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at the age of 89. She was born in Waukesha on April 9, 1925, the only child of Roy L. and Lottie S. (nee Kennedy) Benjamin.

She was a 1946 graduate of Carroll College. Immediately following graduation, she began her career at Carroll College, first in the Alumni Office then in 1948 she worked in the Registrar’s Office as the recorder. In 1951, she became the registrar and held that position until her retirement in 1988. Royanna was an avid reader, bridge player, dog lover and also completed several crossword puzzles each day. She took great joy in collecting books for her “lending library” and sharing them with her family and friends. As a young girl, Royanna spent most of her summer at Silver Lake in Laona and after her retirement she split her time between Laona and Waukesha. She was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Lottie Benjamin; her aunt and uncle, Jane Kennedy Aplin and Royal Aplin; and her cousin, Robert Aplin. She will be sadly missed by her dear family friends Andrew Spencer and Rena and Andrew’s children, Erin, Grant and Mara; and Sara (James) Winkelmann and their children Greg and Katie. She is further survived by Andy and Sara’s 11 grandchildren and many good friends in Laona and Waukesha.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 22, from 10:00AM until the time of the 11:00AM memorial service at First Presbyterian Church, 810 N. East Ave., Waukesha, WI 53186. The Rev. Nicole Farley will preside. Burial will immediately follow at Prairie Home Cemetery.
