Joan Elizabeth (McKenna, Schmitt) Dougherty was born in Jacksonville, Fla., to Pearl Bracker and John McKenna on February 26, 1941.

On May 27, 1973, she was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and a Kingdom Proclaimer who endured to the end with the love of her children at her side.

On November 13, 2014, Joan fell ill in hospice care and passed at Lake Country, Summit.

She is survived by her five children, Dawn (Rick) Olson of Sheboygan and Tammie (Russell) Miles of Sullivan, Wayne (Carrie) Schmitt of Tennessee, Leland (Lisa) Schmitt Jr. of Wisconsin and JoAnna Dougherty of East Troy. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Jessica (Jordan) Schleicher, Brooke Olson, Leland III, Tanya and Keith Schmitt, Alicia (Chad) Ezell and Jared Vincent; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter Schleicher and Athena Vincent.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her precious baby Rebecca Elizabeth Lee Schmitt.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 24, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, 12165 W. Layton Ave., Greenfield, from 3 to 6 PM, with a memorial talk starting at 5 PM.
