Herbert F. Johnson

Herbert F. Johnson passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at the age of 92 years. He was born July 18, 1922, to Ole E. and Laura M. (Jacobson) Johnson.


He was a graduate of Oconomowoc High School. He then served in the Army Air Corps and tallied 50 combat missions in Europe. He was a navigator on a B-24 Liberator heavy bombardment plane and was the wearer of the Distinguished Flying Cross received “for extraordinary achievement in aerial flight.”


Herbert held an associate degree in accounting and business administration. He was employed by General Electric X-Ray, Better Business Accounting in Oconomowoc, A. N. Palmer Company, a school book publishing company, Chicago/New York as comptroller and Marlow Real Estate in Oconomowoc as a realtor. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc and held many church positions over the years.


He was the loving father of Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Johnson of Beloit and Steven (Catherine) Johnson of Delafield; grandfather of Dr. Thomas (Sara) Johnson of Beloit, Lisa (Tim) Moore of Beloit, Rebekah Harris (Adam LaMendola) of South Beloit, Ill., and Mark (Susan) Schock of Delafield, and nine great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth M Johnson; his wife, Betty Johnson; and his sister, Mary Whittaker.


Visitation was held Saturday, November 22, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 145 E. Lisbon St., Oconomowoc.
