Gordon E. Mross

Gordon E. MrossGordon E. Mross of Waukesha passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at AngelsGrace Hospice at the age of 85 years. He was born on November 12, 1928, in Racine, the son of Ernest W. Mross and Helene (nee Porter) Mross.

Upon graduating from UW-Madison in 1951 with a civil engineering degree, Gordon took employment with the Tennessee Valley Authority construction division and remained with the agency until 1957 whereupon he took employment with an engineering consulting firm in Rockford, Ill. In 1961, Gordon joined the municipal engineering firm of Ruekert & Mielke of Waukesha and remained employed there until retiring in 1992. He was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and a lifetime member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. In January 1953, Gordon married his college sweetheart, Louise Littmann, in Sheboygan. Two of their three children were born in Tennessee. Gordon and Louise were among the founders of Ascension Lutheran Church (LCMS) in Madison, Tenn. Gordon was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church of Waukesha. During his more active years, he served as an elder, church council president and taught Sunday school. Among his interests, Gordon was an avid sports enthusiast, especially for the game of softball. He would actively participate on a team no matter where he lived, and if he couldn’t find a team to play with, he would organize his own.

Gordon will be sadly missed by his wife, Louise of 61 years; his children, Kathy (Rocky) Englebretson of West Allis, Amy (Robert) Flood of Plymouth and Ernie Mross of Boulder, Colo.; grandchildren, Benjamin and Kristina Englebretson, Stephanie, Michael and Andrew Flood; brother, Roland Mross of Carmel, Ind.; and brother-in-law, Fred Littmann of Stevens Point. He is further survived by a niece, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents and sisters-in-law, Joyce Mross and Nancy Littmann.

The visitation for Gordon will be held from 4:30 p.m. until the time of the 6:00 memorial service on Friday, October 3, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 1205 S. East Ave., Waukesha, WI 53186. The Rev. Peter A. Schmidt will be officiating.
