Flora Ann Brown (nee Wettengel), age 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at LindenGrove Nursing Home, Waukesha.

Flora was born on February 5, 1927, in the Town of Lake, in Milwaukee.

She is survived by daughter Anne Brown of Waukesha and Dr. Ross (Linda) Brown and grandson Kenny of Marshall.

Flora was preceded in death by her parents, Hattie (nee Walsdorf) and Robert Wettengel; her nine brothers and sisters, Carol, Robert, Joyce, Joan, Richard, Raymond, Ronald, Russell and Suzie; and Flora’s husband of 46 years, LaVern Brown.

Flora was the first of her family to graduate from Bay View High School.

She went to a two-year Teachers College in Union Grove. She taught for three years at Green Lawn Elementary School. LaVern and Flora married after WWII and bought a farm on South Holiday Road, Waukesha. Flora taught for five years at Bethesda Elementary School and finished her Bachelor of Education degree at UW-Whitewater. After raising two children, Flora got her master’s in library science at UW-Whitewater. For 29 years, she was Librarian at Dousman Elementary School. She loved and encouraged her family, loved books, plants and gardening, the farm, and baked brownies for everyone.

For the last five years, Flora has resided at LindenGrove Nursing Home, always with a book in hand and a few more on her table waiting to be read.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Kettle Moraine Schools Scholarship Fund or any charity of your choice.

A celebration of Flora’s life is planned on Sunday, October 26, from 4-7pm.
