Gletha May Black

Gletha May Black of Waukesha, age 82, died on October 15, 2014.

Her beloved husband of 59 years, Bob, preceded her in 2012.

She is survived by a sister, four children and seven grandchildren. The surviving sister is Ruthanna Rogers of Greenville, Ohio.

The children are Susan (Donald) Edwards of Austintown, Ohio, William (Kathy) Black of Pewaukee, Christopher (Lonna) Black of Wichita, Kan., and Sally (Mark) Schultz of Delafield. The grandchildren are Jonathan Edwards, Stephanie Edwards and Michelle Edwards, all of Austintown, Ohio. From Delafield are Lane Schultz, Taylor Schultz, Dana Schultz and Cara Schultz.

Born in Greenville, Ohio, on May 4, 1933, the daughter of Ira and Inez Bollinger, she graduated from Greenville High School in 1950. She studied elementary education at Manchester College, North Manchester, Ind.

There, she met Robert E. Black, to whom she was married in September 1953.

Gletha studied at Peabody while her husband completed a master’s degree in physics at Vanderbilt University. She became a full-time, enterprising homemaker during her family’s early years and was an active member of the Methodist Church. She cheerfully moved her family six times as her husband pursued his research physics career.

Their final and favorite residence was Waukesha, where Gletha became a member of Elmbrook Church, an active volunteer at The Women’s Center of Waukesha, and an avid Packer Backer.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 21, at Church and Chapel Funeral Home, 380 Bluemound Road (at highways J and JJ, four blocks south of Interstate 94), Waukesha, from 10-11:45 AM, with a funeral service at noon. Internment will take place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.
