Ralph H. Garvens

Ralph H. Garvens, of Waukesha, died on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at the age of 95. He was born in Brookfield on October 19, 1918, the son of Enos Gardner and Mabell Julia (nee Torhorst) Garvens.

He was a graduate of Waukesha High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. Ralph worked for Waukesha Tool and Waukesha Bearings for many years. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Waukesha. He enjoyed traveling, telling stories and going for walks, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.

He will be sadly missed by his son James (Marie) Garvens of Holly Springs, N.C.; his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren who knew him as “Bumpa,” Angela (Brett) McCahan, Bradley D. Ferks, Brenda Mies, Benjamin (Mary Ann) Garvens, Joshua (Aurora) Garvens, Matthew Janecke, Therese (Doug) Schaefer and Samantha Garvens; and seven great-grandchildren, Flora, Maddie, Sophie, Alexa, Joshua II, Jacob and Isabella. He is further survived by his brother Robert Garvens, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Loraine; his second wife, Leona; his daughter, Judy Mies, on January 10, 2014; his infant daughter, Barbara; and by his brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 8, from 11:00AM until the time of the 1:00PM funeral service at First United Methodist Church, 121 Wisconsin Ave., Waukesha, WI 53186. The Rev. Dan Schwerin will preside. Burial will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery.
