Sister Dorothy Doolan OP

Sister Dorothy Doolan OP, a member of the Sinsinawa Dominicans, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, at St. Dominic Villa, Sinsinawa. It was the 74th year of her profession.

Sister Dorothy was born on June 23, 1917, to Henry M. and Theresa (Lynch) Doolan of Stone Bank. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Frater William Doolan CSSR; sisters Mary Doolan Wesley, Jeanne Doolan Daniels, and Margaret Doolan Snyder.

She is survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews, Dominican sisters and many friends.

The Doolan family was a longtime member of St. Catherine’s Parish in Mapleton.

Sister Dorothy taught first grade in Catholic schools administered by the Sinsinawa Dominicans. She was assigned to schools throughout the United States and always displayed love and affection for all the children she taught. She was still corresponding with many of her former students upon her death. She retired from teaching after 40-plus years.

She continued her work in the church through hospital ministry, and tutoring in local parishes.

Sister Dorothy was a sweet and loving soul who had an easy laugh and a wonderful sense of humor.

The Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2014, at the Mother House in Sinsinawa, 585 County Road Z, Sinsinawa, followed by graveside rites at the Mother House.
