Doris A. Sherry, 86, of Waukesha, was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, after being a resident at Seasons Hospice in Waukesha for only a few days. She was born June 20, 1928, in Watertown, daughter of Arthur and Sophie Scheele.
Doris married Eugene “Gene” Sherry on June 20, 1953, in Waukesha. “Doll” could only be away from her beloved “Bim” for 23 days, as Gene passed away on Dec. 19, 2014.
Doris was proud of reaching her goal of having worked as a registered nurse for 50 years, the first 35 at Waukesha Memorial Hospital and the last 15 at Avalon Manor in Waukesha. Most of her years at the hospital she worked night shift in the emergency room, helping to treat everything from minor ailments to the most serious accidents and incidents, earning the respect and praise of doctors, co-workers and patients.
Doris was a longtime member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Waukesha.
Along with Gene, she loved classic country music, traveling, socializing with fellow residents of their apartment building, and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Doris worked third shift for many years so that she could be home during the day to raise her six children.
She is survived by children Nancy (James) Ciancimino of Caldwell, Sue (Terry) Stevens of Eagle, Mark (Laurel) Sherry of New Holstein, Karen (Steve) Kulinski of Waukesha, Julie (Geno) Galbari of Waukesha and Michael (Kris) Sherry of Appleton; 13 grandchildren, Christopher Ciancimino, Krystina and Aaron Sherry, Caleb Kulinski, Jennifer, Taylor, Jayme, Caitlyn, and Ryan Galbari, and Jacob, Jordan, Joey and Jenna Sherry; three great-grandchildren, Keira and Kinsey Ciancimino and Logan Schmitting; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Jan. 16, at Church and Chapel Funeral Home, 380 Bluemound Road (at highways J and JJ, four blocks south of Interstate 94), Waukesha. Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to noon, with funeral services starting at noon. Burial will take place in Prairie Home Cemetery in Waukesha.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ascension Lutheran Church or to the family.
