Betty J. Swift

April 20, 1922 — Jan. 2, 2015

Betty J. Swift, age 92, passed away surrounded by members of her family on Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at Cedar Community Healthcare Center, West Bend. She was born April 20, 1922, in Oak Park, Ill., daughter of the late John and Doris (Gilsdorf) Owens.

Betty married Wilbur L. Swift on Nov. 15, 1941. He preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 2004. Betty was involved for many years with her church, Girl Scouts (led 3 troops), genealogy (she researched, instructed, and wrote), hospice work, and as a Stephan’s minister at Cedar Community.

Survivors include her three children, Ronna Swift (Ron Wahl), Connie Swift, and Keith Swift, all of Appleton. She leaves behind five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild born on Christmas, 2014. Also surviving are her sister Barbara Swift (Wendell) of Whitewater and brother Willard Owens of Ft. Atkinson.

Special thanks to Cedar Community Healthcare Center and Hospice team.

In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to send a card or a memorial remembrance, please send to Ronna Swift at 230 W. Seymour St., Appleton, WI, 54915. Remembrance made out to Cedar Community Foundation — Betty Swift.

A memorial service will be held later this spring at Cedar Community. There will be a celebration of her life along with an internment next to Wil, her husband of 62 years, at the Methodist Church in Siloam, this coming summer.

Betty/Mom/Greatma left us with a legacy of loving, giving, and remembering the real meaning of friendship. She was a living example of her Christian beliefs to the very end. We love and miss you, Mom.
