John Jerome Cook
Col. John Jerome Cook, U.S. Army (Ret), 82, of Cary, N.C., passed away Saturday January 3, 2015. He was born in Waukesha to the late Jerome Francis Cook and Agnes Blank Cook. Col. Cook served 32 years on active duty with the United States Army Corps of Engineers.
Upon his retirement, Col. Cook owned and operated a family business, Concrete Coring Company, for more than 15 years in Gainesville, Va.
A memorial service was held January 11 at Faith Baptist Church in Youngsville, N.C. A formal military burial will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
Col. Cook is survived by his wife of 54 years, Diana Reed Cook of Franklinton; children, Jeffrey Alan Cook of Franklinton, Shannon Cook Stewart & husband Dave of Rixeyville, Va., and Dina Cook Griffith & husband Christopher of Cary; grandchildren, Krista Canfield, April Bauder, Virginia “Ginny” Meng, Dillon Kremer, Emily Stewart and Kassandra Cook; great-grandchildren, Sofia, Tyler and Lyla; brothers, Gerald Cook & wife Mary Ann of Watertown, James Cook & wife Ruth of El Paso, Texas, and Joseph Cook of Waukesha; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
