Marjorie ‘Maxine’ LaFratta

Marjorie “Maxine” LaFratta, of Waukesha, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 23, 2015, at Avalon Square at the age of 90. Maxine was born on October 1, 1924, in Goose Creek, Ill., the daughter of Jep and Edna Sumpter.
Maxine and her husband, Albert, co-owned and operated a grocery store along with Maxine’s brother Ralph Sumpter and his wife, Ginny. Al and Max later owned and operated the Hilltop Inn from 1950 until 1979. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing bridge, cooking, loved gardening and also living on their houseboat, “My Way,” on Lake Winnebago. Above everything else, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Maxine will be missed by her children, Greg LaFratta of Waukesha, Mike LaFratta of East Troy, Susie (Robb) Hinn of Waukesha and Cindy (Bob) Grossman of Waukesha; and her grandchildren, David LaFratta, Matt Moylan, Becky Grossman and Chaz Hinn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert LaFratta, and brothers Homer, Morris, Ralph, Harley and Wayne.
The visitation for Maxine will be held on Thursday, February 26, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Ave., Waukesha, WI 53186. The Rev. Howard Haase will officiate. Entombment will immediately follow the Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Masses in Maxine’s name are appreciated by the family.
