John Peter Stonitsch

John Peter Stonitsch of Waukesha passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015, at AngelsGrace Hospice at the age of 65. He was born in New Hyde Park, N.Y., on June 3, 1949, the son of John and Josephine Stonitsch.

After spending his precollege years in Glen Cove, Long Island, N.Y., he received his bachelorís, masterís and doctorate degrees in mathematics at the University of Notre Dame. Peter began teaching at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha in 1977, married wife Kathy in 1978, and they became the proud parents of John (1981) and Katy (1985). He retired from UWW in 2007 after 30 years of service. Peter loved trains, traveling, photography and was a very proud member of BARF and TNSG. In his spare time, Peter enjoyed doing heritage research, culminating in a trip to Gottschee and Slovenia in the spring of 2014 with his sister, Joan.

Peter is survived by his wife, Kathy; children, John (Devon) Stonitsch and Katy (Suneeth) Samuel; grandson, John Tyler Stonitsch; sister, Joan Stonitsch; granddogs, Cody and Roo Samuel; and other loving relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his aunt, Marion Stonitsch.

The visitation for Peter will be held on Tuesday, March 31, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. The eulogy will take place on Wednesday, April 1, at 9:45 a.m. with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m. at St. William Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha, WI 53188. The Rev. Curt Frederick will officiate. Inurnment will take place at Prairie Home Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Peterís name are appreciated to St. William Catholic Church (see address above) or Wisconsin Honor Flight (P.O. Box 636, Port Washington, WI 53074).
