Margaret L. Parana

Margaret L. Parana, born in Scotland on August 11, 1920, the daughter of William F. and Elizabeth (Forrester) Welsh died April 8, 2015.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, William J. Parana; two brothers John and James; and sister Elizabeth “Betty” Hammond.
Margaret is survived by daughter, Lynn Parana of Los Angeles, Calif., and also leaves many loved and loving nieces and nephews.
A registered nurse, she was a first lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps in World War II, serving in South Pacific hospitals in New Guinea and Leyte and Luzon in the Philippine Islands. Moving from Erie, Pa., to Waukesha, she worked at Waukesha Memorial Hospital in private nursing and as college nurse at Carroll College.
She also worked at Red Cross, teaching high school home nursing classes, and volunteered with Army dependents in need.
A longtime member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church, she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Alter Society for many years.
Margaret gardened each year, but her first love was golf and as a member of the Merrill Hills Country Club, pursued the sport there and also as a member of the Moor Downs Ladies League. She greatly enjoyed the many friends of the game.
She was a member of the Waukesha Service Club and its Senior League.
A Remembrance Gathering for Margaret will be held on Tuesday, April 14, from 1 PM to 3 PM at Church and Chapel Funeral Home, 380 Bluemound Road (at highways J and JJ, four blocks south of Interstate 94), Waukesha.
