Katherine ‘Kathy’ Marie Nielsen Chapman

Katherine “Kathy” Marie Nielsen Chapman of Lake City, Minn., formerly of Oconomowoc, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at the Mayo Clinic Health System Care Center in Lake City at the age of 85. She was born in Racine on October 18, 1929, to the late Andrew and Ethel Pedersen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilford “Bill” Chapman, and her brother, Ernest (Dorothy) Nielsen.
She is survived by her sister, Carol (Jim) Blomquist of Riverton, Wyo.; daughter, Andrea Chapman Hamilton of Lake City; and beloved granddaughters, Katherine “Katie” and Madeleine Hamilton of Minneapolis, Minn., and Emmaline Hamilton of Lake City.
She graduated from Whitewater State College in Whitewater and married Bill Chapman in 1958. They moved to Oconomowoc and she taught business education courses at Arrowhead High School in Hartland for over 30 years. She and Bill enjoyed their home on Lac La Belle, entertaining, curling, boating, traveling and their many friends. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the Oconomowoc Area Senior Center, past president of Alpha Delta Kappa, and past president of the Oconomowoc Area Retired Educators Association. In 2009, she moved to Lake City to be closer to her daughter and granddaughters. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Lake City. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother “Besta,” and as a master knitter and baker who warmed the hearts of her loved ones with countless sweaters and Christmas cookies.
The family is grateful to Dr. Douglas Pflaum of Lake City Family Physicians and the entire staff of the Mayo Clinic Health System Care Center for their compassion and loving care.
At her request, there will be no services. Burial will take place at a later date at Glenview Memorial Gardens in Ixonia.
