Russell W. ‘Russ’ Wegner

Feb. 9, 1946 — May 31, 2015

Russell W. “Russ” Wegner of Waukesha passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on Sunday, May 31, 2015, at the age of 69 years. Russ was born on February 9, 1946, in Madison, the son of Herbert and Adeline Wegner.

On June 5, 1981, he married Carole Buss, after his love for her made him follow her from Madison to California, where she was attending graduate school.

Russ retired from J.P. Morgan Chase after 20 years of service. He was a longtime member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Russ was an avid woodworker and loved building furniture, but most importantly, loved spending time with his family. Faith was very important to him and he was a source of quiet strength and kindness to all who knew him.

Russ will be lovingly missed by his wife of 34 years, Carole, and his children Steve (Jane) Wegner of Madison and JoRene’ (Mike) Burdgick of Waukesha. He was the cherished “The Grandfather” of Trent (fiancée Gretta), Sierra Rose and McKenzie Burdgick, and Sophia and Olivia Wegner. He is further survived by his brother- in-law, Dale (Debbie) Buss, and sister-in-law, Mary Buss. He was loved by and will be remembered by many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Rodney, an infant sister and brother-in-law Carl Buss.

The visitation for Russ will be held on Saturday, June 6, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 700 Beechwood Ave., Waukesha, WI 53186, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Jason Hacker will be officiating. There will be a private family burial at Prairie Home Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Russ’ memory are appreciated to Grace Lutheran Church (see address above) or Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Foundation, P.O. Box 1997, M.S. 3050 Milwaukee, WI 53201, or a charity of donor’s choice.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Bylow and Kailynn Miller, A.P.N., and the staff at Froedtert Hospital Cancer Center and Karla Engel, R.N., from Pro-Health Hospice. Also, the Rev. Jason Hacker for sharing God’s words and prayers to guide Russ in his journey to eternal life.
