John Francis O’Brien

John Francis O’Brien died on June 15, 2015, in Naples, Fla. He was 87. Born in Belmont Massachusetts, he graduated from Belmont High School, served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946 and graduated from Boston College in 1951.
He was married to Nancy Nugent for 62 years and together they had five children. John worked in the restaurant and brewery supply business with the Boelter Paper Company in Milwaukee, living in Waukesha for 32 years. He and Nancy later retired to Cape Cod and Naples.
John was an ebullient wit, an inspired salesman and a generous benefactor to his large extended family. He loved the ocean, the Red Sox, but most of all his wife and family. John is survived by his wife and his children, Stephanie Zawalich and her husband John of Medway, Mass.; John O’Brien and his wife Dora of Pacific Palisades, Calif.; Brien O’Brien and his wife Mary Hasten of Chicago; Julie Petrini and her husband Christopher of Framingham, Mass.; Brendon O’Brien and his wife Luciana of Solana Beach, Calif. He is also survived by his grandchildren Brett O’Brien, Katherine Alex O’Brien, Samantha Zawalich, Jack O’Brien, Allison Zawalich, Jessica O’Brien, Shawn Petrini, Luke O’Brien, Sean O’Brien, Tabitha Petrini, Lucas O’Brien and Declan O’Brien, and many nieces, nephews and siblings-in-law.
He was predeceased by his siblings Mary Gallagher, Ann Finigan, the Rev. James O’Brien and Trudy Flynn.
He will be greatly missed by so many.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Ignatius Church at Boston College on Monday, June 22, at 11 a.m.
