Eugene L. ‘Gene’ Carlson
Eugene L. “Gene” Carlson, age 84, of Laona, formerly of Dousman, passed away Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rhinelander, following a short illness.
Gene was born in South Range (near Superior) on Nov. 28, 1930, the son of Fred and Hilda (Froen) Carlson.
Gene grew up working on farms, but became an owner/operator over-the-road truck driver. He drove truck for 30 years, retiring in 1988. After his retirement, Gene and Zelma moved to Laona. He enjoyed fishing, tinkering and puttering and could fix anything.
He is survived by his wife, Zelma of Laona; daughters, Deborah Koch, Dousman, and Kay Carlson, Little Suamico; son, Eugene (Kathy) Carlson, Jr., Milwaukee; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Eric), Katie, Kyle and Mary, and four great-grandchildren, Pierson, Elora, Sky and Tiger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Hilda; three sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Weber-Hill Funeral Home, Crandon. No services will be held. Interment will be at the Ottawa Cemetery, Dousman, at a later date. Online condolences may be directed to
