Jane (Schoenike) Takemoto Jane (Schoenike) Takemoto passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at her home in Elmwood, Neb. Jane was born in Oconomowoc and graduated from Oconomowoc High School in 1969. She went on to receive degrees in Minnesota from Macalester College and William Mitchell College of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor. She retired January 1, 2014, as executive director of the Nebraska State Bar Association.

Jane is survived by her husband, Jack Takemoto; sons Michael (Noelle) Aspnes, Sam (Anne Walter) Aspnes and Dan Aspnes; sister Kay (Patrick) Meisenheimer; brother Tom Schoenike; nephews Blake (Angela) Meisenheimer and Brent Meisenheimer; and great-nephew Joseph Meisenheimer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Hazel (Kraut) Schoenike, and brother Steven Schoenike.

Jane was passionate about making the legal system fair and accessible to all. She worked tirelessly and believed that lawyers had a responsibility to give back to society through pro bono service. She helped establish the Nebraska Lawyers Foundation and the Nebraska Volunteer Lawyers Project.

Donations to the Volunteer Lawyers Project through the Nebraska Lawyers Foundation would be appreciated in Jane’s memory.
