Marie J. Stephens
Marie J. Stephens (nee Franczek), 97, left this world in peace to join the love of her life in heaven on August 30, 2015. Marie was born on February 1, 1918, in West Frankfort, Illinois, and moved to Armstrong Creek when she was 5 years old.
She met her adoring husband and best friend, Herb Stephens, 73 years ago at the Eagles Ballroom. They were married November 18, 1944, at Holy Apostles Church, and resided in New Berlin for the remainder of their lives.
Known for her beautiful smile and sparkling eyes, Marie had the honor of being named Miss Milwaukee 1943. She devoted her life to her family and her church, and was a member of the Christian Mothers Society at Holy Apostles. Marie worked side by side with her husband, serving as the bookkeeper for Stephens Trucking for 43 years. She was happiest when she could host gatherings for friends and family, serving her favorite meals and desserts, and always ensuring no one left the table hungry, as she had often had to do when she was young.
Marie is survived by her daughter, Carol (Bob) Treml; daughters-in-law Connie, Debra and Beverly Stephens; and 12 grandchildren, Joe (Katie) Stephens, Cheryl (Kevin) Frank, Julie (Ryan) Erdmann, Jason (Bri) Mau, David (Katie) Stephens, Kristin (fiancé Jim Wendlandt) Stephens, Robert (Nikki) Stephens, Keith (Jen) Stephens, Katie (Josh) Yost, Steven (Julie) Treml, Paul (Alexa) Treml and Julie (Scott) Hintz. Marie had 15 great-grandchildren, and three more on the way. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Herb; three sons, Rick, Larry and Ron; her parents, Adam and Katherine (Byrdziak) Franczek; and her three brothers, Stanley, Joseph and Walter.
Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 3, at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 16000 W. National Ave., New Berlin, from 9 AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Interment Holy Apostles Cemetery to follow.
She will be missed by her family and many friends who know her glowing smile lives on in the Kingdom of Heaven.
