NEW BERLIN

Bonnie Lyn Klawitter

Dec. 22, 1952 – Oct. 14, 2015

Bonnie Lyn Klawitter Bonnie Lyn Klawitter (nee Handeland) of New Berlin was born to eternal life Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015, at the age of 62, arriving in the Lord’s heavenly kingdom nine years to the day after her mother did.

She was born Dec. 22, 1952, to Lew and Jacquelyn Handeland. She was a 1971 graduate of New Berlin High School.

Bonnie lived a life of love, nurturing, and healing; she directly impacted the lives of thousands of people as an intensive care unit technician at Elmbrook and later Froedtert hospitals, where she was known by her co-workers to take extra pains to pamper patients to heal their hearts as well as their bodies. Her nurturing and loving nature infused her home, be it in her kitchen where she routinely prepared enough food to feed an army — with a couple of divisions to spare — or in her garden, where she exercised a master’s touch and a natural green thumb. Like her tulips heralding the arrival of spring, or ferns that seemingly came from the Jurassic era, towering sunflowers, an array of flowers, or a bounty of produce that sustained her family throughout the year, Bonnie sowed love through all seasons and doted on all in her family and beyond.

She also enjoyed the music of her youth, and was known to take care of her home to the strains of disco. Bonnie loved to travel, taking many trips to places such as Florida and repeated visits to Las Vegas with her family, and experiencing the sights of Hawaii, Mexico and Alaska with her husband. For many years she also organized reunions of her high school class.

She is lovingly survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 44 years, Jerry; her adoring children and their spouses: Sherry (Brian) Huber of Greenfield, Dan (Tamara) Klawitter of Montello and Sarah (Michel) dos Santos of Ohio; and she will be forever cherished by grandchildren Ashley Klawitter and Jacquelyn, Isabela and Leonardo dos Santos. She is further survived by her father, Lew Handeland, brothers Jack and Tom Handeland, and sisters Jill (Jerry) Gramins and Kriss (Tim) Loftus, as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Jacquelyn Handeland.

A celebration of Bonnie’s life will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at Becker Ritter Funeral Home, 14075 W. North Ave., Brookfield. Her cremains are to be scattered at the discretion of her family.

In lieu of flowers or other memorials, random acts of kindness are suggested.

“Walk through my garden, Don’t just pass on by. Enjoy the fruits of my labor, They will last a lifetime. Don’t cry in my garden, I created it to see you smile.”
