John R. ‘Jack’ Parker

John R. “Jack” Parker died on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015, at the age of 98.

He was a graduate of the University of Michigan, with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering. He began as a draftsman at AO Smith Corp. in 1939, after many years of hard work, and finished his career as president of AO Smith-Inland, Inc. retiring in 1982. He had a major interest in the automobile industry throughout his life.

He served on boards and advisory councils of many civic and charitable groups in the Milwaukee area both while still working and in retirement. He believed it important to “give back” to his community because he had been very fortunate in his life’s accomplishments.

Jack always loved water boats; he lived on Beaver Lake for 47 years and during that time also owned a sailboat on Lake Michigan.

He sailed extensively on the Great Lakes and with family and friends in the Caribbean Sea, Europe and South Pacific. He moved to Lake Terrace Apartments, Oconomowoc, in 2001 where enjoyed many years and good friends. Jack served several terms on the Advisory Council. He spent his final two years at Shorehaven Health & Rehab Center and was grateful for the loving care he received from the staff there.

He is survived by his children Robert (Elizabeth) Parker, Joan Parker (Ray) Unrein, Ann Parker Spence and Richard (Vagner deAlmeida) Parker; grandchildren Ellen (Troy) Kemnitz, Thomas (Pauline) Parker, Kelly (Paul) Pagel and Peter Spence; and great-grandchildren Rebecca, Karl and Sarah Kemnitz and Sarah and Jack Pagel.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Chissus Parker, and grandson Karl Unrein.

A memorial gathering will be held at Shorehaven Chapel, 1306 W. Wisconsin Ave., Oconomowoc, on Friday, Nov. 20, from 10:30 AM until services at 11:30 AM, followed by a reception.
