Robert F. Karl

Robert F. “Bob” Karl passed away early Friday evening, October 23, 2015, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King. Bob was born to Frank and Martha Karl (nee Katzner) at Waukesha Memorial Hospital on February 17, 1923. He graduated from Waukesha High School.

Bob worked in Waukesha for Manitowoc Church Furniture and Alloy Products Corporation until he volunteered for the Army in 1943.

He proudly served in Company A of the 553rd Engineers Combat Battalion in France and Germany. He received the American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with three bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. He recently was notified by the Government of France that he is a recipient of the Medal of Honor of France. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and returned home to work at Alloy Products as a tool and die machinist, working there over 40 years. He retired as plant superintendent in 1985.

Bob is survived by daughter Jean (Tom) Mahnke of Waupaca, son Robert “Rob” (Jan) of Kaukauna and son David “Skip” (Karen) of Stevens Point. He is survived by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Marion (nee Rupp), on Aug. 26, 2015.

A celebration of life will take place Monday, Nov. 23, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1052 Whiterock Ave., Waukesha. Pastor Lawrence Gates of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate. Visitation will take place in the Trinity Room at Trinity Lutheran at 10:30 AM with services at 11:30 AM in the sanctuary.

Interment with military honors to follow at Prairie Home Cemetery, 605 S Prairie Ave., Waukesha.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made in Bob’s name to Trinity Lutheran School, Waukesha.
