July 20, 1929 — Nov. 24, 2015
Hubert Eugene Hoff of Waukesha went peacefully to the open arms of Jesus while family sang “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” to him on Nov. 24, 2015.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 64 years, Dottie (nee Dorothy O’Neill), daughters Jennifer Mattson (Vince Schmuki), Sarah (Dave) Hall, Libby (Pete) Briscoe, foster daughter Donna (Fred) Kagin, and son Jim (Holly) Hoff. He is also survived by his brother John (Betty) Hoff, and his grandchildren Thea, Maja, Ben, Caleb, Micah, Elisabeth, Hannah, Preston, Brooke, Paige, Cameron, Annika, Liam, Rebecca and Elizabeth. He also had 11 great grandchildren who loved their “GGP,” Great Grampa, as well as nieces and nephews. He is missed by all who knew him.
Born in Waukesha on July 20, 1929, Hugh was a UW School of Business graduate, a Navy veteran (Korea), and was born again as a Christian at age 35. He was an entrepreneur, a business owner and a dreamer. He loved mountains, sailing, chasing fire engines and dogs (but they never obeyed him). Above all, he will be remembered for being a peacemaker, for his kind and gentle ways, and for being a “gentleman’s gentleman,” as one of his hospice nurses called him, even in his last days.
The family would like to thank the V.A. Hospice and Luther Manor Hospice caregivers for their loving care of Hugh for the last three months of his life.
There will be a memorial service in the chapel at Elmbrook Church on Dec. 12 from 4-5 PM.
