Richard L. ‘Dick’ Poppie

Richard L. 'Dick' PoppieRichard “Dick” died Sunday, November 29, 2015, at home surrounded by his family at the age of 78 years. He was born in Waukesha to the late Norris and Genevieve (Hack) Poppie. A longtime resident of Waukesha County, he fulfilled his dream of owning a home in the country, in the Town of Vernon. He recently moved to his last home with his son in Ettrick.

Richard was the Owner of B & B Modern Interiors in Waukesha, a master carpenter of custom cabinets and counter tops. His hard work from a young age shaped who he was until his last years when he retired from Midwest Tops in Milwaukee. He loved to cook, travel, dress up as Santa Claus and a clown to entertain children and adults alike. Richard enjoyed his collectables and his many canine companions. He was a dear devoted friend to many. Richard was a very giving man who donated to many charities throughout his lifetime.

He is survived by his children, Ron (Jennifer) Poppie of Ettrick, Annette (Chuck) Elftman of Ixonia and Patrick Poppie of Crivitz; daughters-in-law, Teresa Poppie of Alabama and Lynn Poppie of Wauwatosa; and sister, Florine “Flory” (Tom) Schreibel of Pewaukee. He leaves behind 12 dearly loved grandchildren, Alice, Andy (Julie), Ronny (Abby), Megan, Anna (Mike), Laura, C.J., John, Emma, Daniel (Sarah), Michael (Caitlin) and Jessica. He was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren, along with many dear nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his son William “Bill” R. Poppie of Alabama; sister Beverley Gilbertson-Hahn; and brothers Don, Keith and Paul.

A celebration of his life will be on Saturday, December 5. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha, WI 53188. Burial will immediately follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.
