OCONOMOWOC

Wilber G. ‘Bill’ Gill, D.D.S.
June 29, 1934 — Nov. 28, 2015

Wilber G. “Bill” Gill, D.D.S., age 81, of Oconomowoc, died peacefully on Nov. 28, 2015, at home surrounded by his loving wife and children. Bill was born in Milwaukee on June 29, 1934.

His family later moved to Oconomowoc, where he graduated from high school and then went on to Marquette University, where he met his wife, Lucy (Hinni), and graduated from dental school. Bill served in the United States Navy as a lieutenant. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, where he performed dentistry for the Marines. He set up his practice in Oconomowoc, working tirelessly until his retirement in 2010. Other than his family, Bill’s greatest joy was dentistry.

Highly sociable, Bill was an active member of the Waukesha County Dental Society, an examiner on the State Dental Examining Board for 13 years, a private pilot, and a member of the Kettle Moraine Curling Club. He also enjoyed raising and showing Landseer Newfoundlands, sailing, deep sea and game fishing, down-hill skiing, the Green Bay Packers and hunting with his friends and his loyal yellow lab, Joey.

Though he battled devastating health setbacks for the past five years, he never lost his positive outlook on life. Never afraid to take on a challenge, Bill lived a full life and will be sorely missed by family, friends and the community he dedicated himself to.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Lucy, of 52 years; his children, Susan (Timothy) Rohde and Michael (Maureen) Gill; his grandson, Mason Rohde; his siblings, Helen (Robert) Schmitt, Robert (Marie) Gill and Connie (Dick) Kraemer; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Delores and Wilber.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Dec 9, from 10 am to noon at St. Catherine of Alexandria Church in Mapleton. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at noon, followed by military honors, and a luncheon which will be held on the church’s lower level.
